The owner of a successful casual seafood restaurant chain wanted to launch something completely different – an upscale dining and nightlife destination that could compete with venues in Miami and LA, but at Cleveland prices. Filter needed to function as both an elevated dinner destination and a late-night DJ venue, attracting diners earlier in the evening and transforming into a social experience afterward. The space was designed with Instagram-worthy moments throughout, turning customers into content creators. The challenge was creating a brand that communicated luxury and exclusivity without alienating customers with approachable budgets.

Brand Identity – The Camera Flash The logo solves the entire concept in one mark. “FILTE” uses an elegant, spaced serif that feels refined and timeless. The “R” is an oversized, flowing cursive letter that reads as a camera flash – immediately signaling that this is an experience worth capturing. The exaggerated script contrasts with the restrained serif, creating visual tension that mirrors the brand promise: polished but never stuffy, elevated but still accessible.
Color System – Luxury Without Pretension I kept the core palette deliberately simple: black, gold, and textured grays with marble accents. Gold gradients and metallic treatments signal luxury. Paper textures and subtle grit keep it grounded. This wasn’t about Michelin-star formality – it was about giving people permission to feel special without requiring a special occasion budget. The restraint in the color system allowed the photography and event imagery to do the heavy lifting.
Dual-Function Marketing Strategy Filter operates on two schedules and serves two audiences, so the marketing needed to flex accordingly. Daytime brunch and dinner marketing uses warm, vibrant imagery – like the orange/red duotone Sunday Funday campaigns that feel energetic and welcoming. Nighttime event marketing leans into urban sophistication – moody photography, metallic accents, private jet imagery that creates aspiration without exclusion. Celebrity appearance graphics balance both worlds: clean layouts that feel upscale while letting the talent photography carry street credibility.
Event Series Branding Each recurring event needed its own visual identity while staying in the Filter ecosystem. “Too Private Thursdays” uses navy, white, and that signature gold with private jet imagery for throwback nights. “Sunday Night Flights” during Browns games combines football culture with luxury cues – golden airplanes, bold typography, sports energy filtered through an upscale lens. The weekly DJ lineups get darker, moodier treatments with prominent photography and minimalist type lockups.
