Two veteran DJs wanted to launch Cleveland’s first formal DJ education institute. They had 30+ years of combined industry experience and a proven teaching method (“The 4 Pillars”), but needed a brand that could compete in both the education space and the music industry. The challenge was creating an identity that felt credible enough for institutional partnerships while maintaining the energy and authenticity of actual DJ culture.

BRAND IDENTITY The interlocking ‘S’ as a soundwave icon solves multiple problems at once – it’s a memorable mark that works at app icon size, references audio visually, and the intertwined elements mirror the founders’ collaborative teaching approach. The navy and orange palette avoids typical “music school” clichés while feeling both contemporary and energetic. The bold sans serif typography system carries confidence without aggression.
MULTI-CHANNEL STRATEGY This brand needed to work in boardrooms and nightclubs. The executive summary and partnership proposals use clean layouts and infographic elements to make dense business information digestible for potential investors and partners like Rock The House Group. The event marketing for Set Trippin’ DJ battles leans into grittier textures and hand-drawn elements that feel authentic to DJ culture. The website balances both – professional enough to convert parents enrolling kids, energetic enough to appeal to aspiring adult DJs.
EVENT MARKETING Set Trippin’ and Set Trippin’ 2.0 required different visual treatments for different audiences. The original battle used polished 3D typography with chrome effects for a broader appeal. 2.0 embraced rawer energy – distressed backgrounds, electric blue hand-drawn equipment illustrations, neon scribble effects – targeting a more street-level DJ community. Individual DJ portraits maintained brand consistency while personalizing the lineup. Open Spin events used the brightest, most accessible version of the brand to welcome community participants.
DESIGN IMPACT SoundBender Institute launched with a complete brand ecosystem that secured business partnerships, filled event venues, and converted website visitors into enrolled students. The brand system proved flexible enough to handle corporate proposals, grassroots event marketing, and educational content – all while maintaining visual consistency. The founders now operate a fully functioning DJ education business with multiple revenue streams, from B2C classes to B2B organizational partnerships.
